CAT Recruitment Work

CAT Recruitment Activity in Schools
The Dance City CAT Recruitment Team offer FREE talent scouting sessions to schools across the North East region for children of different ages at the following times of year:

  • Years 5, 6 & 7   May - June
These workshops are offered in the Middlesbrough, Darlington, Newcastle and Gateshead areas and focus on recruiting for the Foundation Training Programme in contemporary dance.
  • Years 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10   September - April
These workshops are offered to all schools across the North East region and focus on recuiting for the Advanced Training Programme in contemporary dance.

These contemporary dance workshops are led by a trained dance professional from the Dance City CAT Recruitment Team and are specifically geared to selecting students who may have the potential to join one of our dance training programmes.  All members of the CAT Recruitment Team hold an enhanced CRB certificate.

Dance City is one of nine Centres for Advanced Training (CATs) across England offering professional level pre-vocational dance training to young people aged 9 to 18 years old.  The Dance City CAT is funded by the government’s Department for Education (DfE) and is responsible for delivering contemporary dance training to gifted and talented young dancers in the North East region.  More information about the government's Music and Dance Scheme and the National Dance CATs can be found here: www.nationaldancecats.co.uk

We are trying to raise awareness across the North East region about the training and opportunities offered to young talented dancers through the Dance City CAT.  We are particularly keen to work in areas of the North East where we have not yet had the opportunity to work with local schools and their students.

How can local schools become involved?
A member of staff from the CAT Recruitment Team will come into your school, free of charge, to observe or teach a one-off contemporary dance workshop to a group of students (no more than twenty students per workshop).  Following the session we will make recommendations for any student that we think has talent and they will be given the relevant information about contacting Dance City.

The CAT Recruitment Team are looking for young people who display the potential, enthusiasm and commitment required to join one of the dance programmes that the Dance City CAT offers.  Students do not need to have had any previous dance experience to take part in a CAT Recruitment dance workshop in their school.

If you are a local school and you require further information or you would like to book a free dance workshop please contact:
