Suitable clothing/equipment: Clothing should be flexible and non-binding, allowing for maximum movement and for the skin to sweat. Shorts and a t-shirt, leggings/tights and exercise top are commonly worn. Avoid baggy clothing and socks.

Description of a typical class: 60 minutes of breath-linked movements.

History of the dance style: Ashtanga Yoga is an ancient system of Yoga that was taught by Vamana Rishi in the Yoga Korunta. This text was imparted to Sri T. Krishnamacharya in the early 1900’s by his Guru Rama Mohan Brahmachari, and was later passed down to Pattabhi Jois for the duration of his studies with Krishnamacharya, beginning in 1927.
