It offers advanced training in all areas of the dance i.e. top-rock, footwork, freezes, powermoves and combining it all together. It will also address musicality and development of own style as well as performance and battle skills. In addition, the class will aim to extend students' knowledge about the culture and history of breakin' wherever possible.

Please note this is not a street dance class nor will it teach you popping, locking, krumping or crip walking.

The structure of the class and methods used may vary from one class to the next but these are things that you should expect in your attendance: Warm-up, stretches, movement technique and drills, recalling movement sequences/routines, freestyling, creative tasks etc…

Music: Funk, breaks and hiphop.

History of the dance style: Breaking originated in the Bronx, New York around early 70’s. It is a component part of hip-hop culture with the other 3 components being DJ’ing, MC’ing and Graffitti Art. It was a product of the creative minds of young people living in poor socio-economic conditions in the ghetto in the 70’s. Being such a fresh and powerful positive force that it was it soon spread around the city and around the globe and has been influential to and influenced by everything around it since. Always going back to its roots and its foundation…

The name of the dance comes from a break in a record where everything drops and you are only left with a drum beat that makes you go wild until the point you break.
