Neon Dance is currently in residency this week at Dance City.

Neon Dance was founded in 2003 and produce visually stunning performance work, combining dance with original music and digital media. Artistic Director, Adrienne Hart, creates a performance experience designed for a varied range of spaces from small theatre venues to large scale festivals.

Neon Dance are using their residency to develop their work with media artist Frieder Weiss as well as working towards their upcoming new production The Intention.

James Wilton has been creating work with Northumbria University BA (Hons) Dance: Choreography third year students this week at Dance City. James has taken the students through an engaging and creative process as they embark on their final semester.

The students have had an exciting and inspirational week with James. Their week has been a mixture of improvisation, body conditioning, and floor work as well as in depth discussions on religion and philosophy.

Dance City, Newcastle, is delighted to announce the commissioning of six new pieces of dance in 2012 – 13, investing a total of at least £100,000 in new work.

This new initiative is designed to stimulate, promote and support the creation of six new dance works in the North East. The dance development agency for the North East is awarding £50,000 of its own funds to the commissioning initiative with awards of between £5,000 and £15,000 issued to each successful artist or company.
