The Flex Dance Company present their first full length work Shake the Tree at Dance City

The Flex Dance Company is the leading contemporary dance company for people with a learning disability in the North East. They are a company of nine dancers who come together to create, devise and perform new work.

Shake the Tree, their first full length performance, follows George, a young learning disabled man entering adulthood and being faced with choices that need to be made at this pivotal point in his life. The production is choreographed by Tess Chaytor, Creative Director of TIN Arts, who says:

"This is an exciting time for The Flex Dance Company and the unique and talented performers involved with the project. We have been developing the company for a number of years and are delighted that we have reached the exciting position of being able to present a full length performance on a professional stage at Dance City to North East audiences."

The company’s aim is to create new full length works whilst further developing the skills of the company to a professional level. They are dedicated to showing that disability is not a barrier to creativity and ability. Also, they aim to develop original work which embraces strong dynamics, technical achievement and creates a strong bond between the viewer and the dancer.

Shake the Tree is The Flex Dance Company’s first full length work premiering at Dance City and is available for touring in 2012.

The Flex Dance Company present Shake the Tree at Dance City on Sat 28 January, 2012 at 8pm. Tickets are priced £8 (£5 conc) and can be purchased from Dance City Ticket Office 0191 261 0505 or www.dancecity.co.uk
