11/10/12 James Wilton Dance make their debut in Dance City

James Wilton presents a powerful and exhilarating triple bill of contemporary dance works at Dance City.

The company of four exceptional performers push themselves to their physical limits accompanied by a progressive rock soundtrack. Cave, Falling Unknown and in cycles form an unmissable evening of breathtaking physicality, stunning imagery and imaginative partner work.

Cave, draws influence from the philosophies of Plato and Jean Paul Sartre by exploring our perceptions of reality and our desires to uncover the truth. Falling Unknown is a duet that focuses on the ideas of attraction, conflict and sacrifice. The evening culminates in James Wilton Dance’s newest work, in cycles, a solo loosely based on the Hindu belief in re-incarnation. We are born, we grow, we get old, we die, repeat, we go on very different journeys but the ending is always the same.

James studied at London Contemporary Dance School and toured nationally with LC3. In 2010 James created his first professional work The Shortest Day, which won the Sadler’s Wells Global Dance Contest. James has created works for London School of Contemporary Dance, Northern School of Contemporary Dance as well as doing a large amount of education work for established dance education organisations.

James Wilton’s work focuses on physical risk-taking and pushing the body to its absolute limits in an energetic and athletic manner, drawing influence from martial arts, contact improvisation, breakdance, capoeira, film, and philosophy. James aims to create contemporary dance work that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.
