Schools at DC is an exciting opportunity for educational establishments to visit, explore and experience Dance City. All ages, abilities and key stages will be accommodated accordingly through an introductory talk, building tour, professional performance and a tailor-made workshop.
Our aims and objectives
To develop and build upon existing and new relationships with school and students across the region.
To support and enhance the teacher/pupil relationship through dance.
To increase positive active opportunities available to young people.

Introductory talk on Dance City, its development and what we provide as a National Dance Agency.
Tour of our award winning building.
Performance of professional work.
Workshop with a professional dance artist.
Workshop ideas
Schools will be able to pick a workshop from a list of topic areas such as:
- Understanding basic choreography.
- Understanding movement.
- Introduction to contemporary technique.
- Fun and creative ideas for key stages 1, 2 and 3.
- GSCE support.
- A Level support.
Support material
All teachers will receive a complimentary teacher’s pack consisting of a template for lesson plans, ideas for developing the experience of the workshop, music suggestions and opportunities to get the best out of your National Dance Agency.
Possible timetable
Please note this is a draft structure to give an idea of the format of the day.
10.00 - Arrive/welcome
10.10 - Introductory Talk – The role of the National Dance Agency, our new building, the work we do, and the artists and companies we work with.
10.30 - Building tour.
11.00 - Practical workshop (planned/tailored in partnership with the teacher).
12.30 - Lunch (leader still available to the group at this time to answer questions).
13.15 - Practical workshop continued and end of day performance.
14.15 - Watch rehearsal of professional group in residency at DC.
14.30 - Group departs.
Specifications
Visits will be divided into groups of 30 students.
Dance City can accommodate 24 visits per annum.
Places will be allocated on a strictly first come first serve basis.
Students are to be accompanied by the appropriate number of staff, dependant on ratio requirements of age group (not to include Dance City staff member).
Lunch will not be provided but space in Dance City will be allocated to the group for them to eat in. Water will be made available whilst the practical workshops are taking place.
Costs
Costs are dependant on your requirements and group size, but as a guide price it should cost around £150 to stage this event for a group of 30 students.
