About
Dance City’s Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) programme is part of the Department for Education’s Music and Dance Scheme offering dance training for young people from the North East region who are 10-16 years old. We are launching a brand new CAT in Sunderland this September.

We are looking for dancers who show talent in dance and our aim is to inspire, enthuse and empower gifted young dancers to fulfil their creative potential.

Want to know more about the brand new Dance City CAT in Sunderland?

We are holding a free Taster Weekend at our amazing studios in The Fire Station.

Book your spot and come along to dance, have fun and learn all about the CAT.

Saturday 29 May
10am – 1.30pm

The boys’ workshop will give male-identifying participants an insight into the wonderful world of dance and some of the training involved in becoming a first – class performer. We welcome beginners and those with experience.
Leading the Boys' Workshop will be internationally renowned B-Boy Rob Anderson of Bad Taste Cru.

Breaking Taster:
Breaking/ Breakin' (more commonly called Breakdance) is a Street style dance, created and developed as part of Hip Hop culture by African American and Latino youths in New York during the 1970's. Breaking is known for its explosive, athletic and creative movement, becoming a worldwide phenomenon.

In this taster session, you'll be introduced to the four main elements of the dance: Top Rock, Footwork, Power and Freezes.

The second part of the Boys' Workshop with Rob Anderson is a Creative Class Taster.

Behind all choreography (a solo, a stage performance or a music video) is a range of creative tools and concepts that allow choreographers and dancers to create original and inspiring movements.

In this taster session you'll explore a range of creative tasks and games to help you discover new movement possibilities.
