About
Moving Art Management’s Choreview is a new dance writing development programme for the North East.
New workshop added! Dance Writing: Playing with the form and exploring its future.
This workshop, delivered by dance art journal, will take an experimental and creative approach to dance writing, looking at how our understanding of it can be stretched, expanded and perhaps, reconsidered.
The session will be part writing-based and part discussion. Creative writing tasks and group discussion will focus on the following areas:
-What is gained and lost when writing about dance?
-What is the relationship and intersections between words and movement?
-How can we play with traditional forms of dance writing?
-What challenges does dance writing face in 2023?
-Can dance writers and artists be friends?
-What is a future for dance writing in the UK dance sector?
After the workshop, participants can expect to have a more expanded idea of what dance writing can be and a vision of what a possible future for the form is.
The workshop is suitable for anyone who has an interest in writing about dance. Ages 16+
Facilitator: dance art journal is an award-nominated independent dance magazine. Established in 2019, dance art journal writes about the work of under-the-radar dance, and is an advocate of dance journalism in the UK and beyond. As well as being a magazine, dance art journal delivers dance writing workshops. It was a recipient of the Siobhan Davies Studios’ Percolate Residency in 2021 and took part in the Roundhouse’s Accelerator.
Moving Art Management are also offering childcare stipends to help people access and attend these sessions. If this is of interest to you, please email hello@movingartmanagement.com after booking.
The Choreview programme is made possible by funding from Arts Council England and North of Tyne Combined Authority, as part of Creative Central: NCL. With additional support from dance art journal, New Writing North and Dance City.
