James Southward will lead this improvisational class with a focus on physicality, sensations and qualities through imagery, responding to music and connecting to your own physical pleasures. He will feed in concepts of classical form, muscular activation and stamina to fully prepare your body for the working day.

James Southward trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and graduated in 2012. As well as achieving a first class honours degree, he was the recipient of the Carole Woolridge Award which is given to one student each year for outstanding performance.

Upon graduation, he began his freelance career as a performer, maker and teacher. His last choreographic project was a solo commission from Dance City, Newcastle.

James has worked with Simon Birch, Janis Claxton, Scottish Opera, Tamsyn Russell, Antony Logiudice and Gary Clarke. His most recent project was POP-UP Duets by Janis Claxton which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2016.

James joined the company as a freelancer for a performance of Miann in 2015 and became a full-time company member in October 2016.
