ASHTANGA YOGA WORKSHOP 9.30am-12.30pm

Full Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series plus some Intermediate asanas
This workshop will begin by guiding dancers through the full Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series, which is considered therapeutic and cleansing. It includes standing and seated asanas, arm balances and inversions.

We will also work through some of the Intermediate Series, which introduces deeper back bends and twists, leg-behind-the head asanas, arm balances and interesting headstands. It is said to purify the nervous system, showing us how to remain steady and calm when facing difficulty.

After a short break, we will work in pairs to examine alignment and adjustments for specific asanas.

Background information
Yoga is an ancient philosophy and system of practices designed to unite mind and body creating a sense of complete well-being.

Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic and physically challenging style of yoga, where each movement is synchronised with the breath, and a set series of asanas are linked in a constant flow, creating a detoxifying heat. Perhaps most importantly, it develops a greater ability to stay focused.
