Pulse is a series of events which celebrate the best in youth dance across the region and provide groups with the opportunity to perform in a professional space, be inspired, see each other’s work and acknowledge the talent of young creators and performers. Dance is a great way of sharing skills, developing confidence, self-awareness, body awareness and communication. It is also a tool to encourage group work and social skills and not forgetting dance is great fun (at any age!). The ethos of the Pulse events across the region remains the same; all of the Dance Hubs involved are keen to create events for more and more people to enjoy being part of something special and making memories.
Sub-regional Pulse events happen throughout the region in March on an annual basis and Dance City hosts the event for Newcastle/Gateshead groups and the Regional event for selected groups. The Pulse events also offer the opportunity for youth dance progression routes; groups of young people aged 11 to 19 (and disabled young people up to the age of 24) can opt to be part of a selection process to represent the North East at the National U.Dance Festival held in different places each summer.
Some groups involved in Pulse have been supported by Dance City artists as we are keen to make more links with schools/groups across the region and offer dance to as many people as possible both in and out of the Dance City building. We aim to inspire people of all ages by opening doors to dance and making it accessible to all. If you would like your group to be involved next year please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.
