Dance City is proud to announce its participation in the Big Give’s Arts for Impact Week between 17-24 March, a national matched‑funding campaign that doubles donations for one week only. During the campaign period, we aim to raise £2,800, which will be doubled to £5,600 to support its early years programme, Dance Into Learning.

The initiative will fund weekly dance sessions for nursery and reception-aged children growing up in the West End of Newcastle — an area where 43% of children live in poverty. Many children in the community face barriers in language development, social skills and emotional regulation, challenges further amplified by the lingering effects of Covid‑related isolation.

Helping Children Build Confidence, Communication and Joy

Dance Into Learning brings specialist early years dance practitioners into local schools, where sessions are co-designed with teachers to support children’s physical, social and emotional development. Through movement, rhythm, song and storytelling, children build key skills that prepare them for a confident, successful start to school.

The £2,800 campaign target contributes toward essential programme costs including:

  • £3,200 – specialist early years dance practitioner·
  • £250 – healthy snacks for sessions·
  • £250 – food for family sharing events·
  • £200 – free tickets for schools’ matinees·
  • £200 – materials such as scarves, playmats and percussion instruments·
  • £1,500 – staff time
