New Art Residencies – Newcastle City Council

Newcastle City Council Arts Team would like to recruit professional artists to engage local people in 4 distinct NEW[castle] ART[ists’] RES[idencies] between October 2019 and March 2020; artists from diverse backgrounds, creatively and culturally; artists who are willing to take risks and explore themes in sometimes challenging situations; artists who can clearly demonstrate their ability to build strong relationships; and artists who will ensure that the artwork created is of the highest standard and is relevant to project participants and audiences.

Our key aim is to explore creative ideas and ambitions of the project participants and the communities they are part of, celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Newcastle’s many diverse communities and leave a lasting legacy which enables local people to continue to develop their creative skills and cultural understanding after the residencies have ended.

All our work is designed and delivered in partnership with key community-based partners to ensure that the work is relevant and meaningful to all involved. Having delivered residencies in this way for 7 years, we will explore how the programme supports local people and gather an evidence base to help the Arts Team continue to develop their approach to improving access to, and engagement in, creative activity in Newcastle.
