About
Se Gæst | The Guest
When a stranger washes up on the shores of England, a community in turmoil is forced to confront their attitudes towards tolerance, survival, blame, nostalgia, and the changing world around them.
Through dance, live music, and storytelling Se Gæst | The Guest examines who we are, where we come from, and where we are going as a group of people who currently call England home today.
This work has been built following a series of interviews and discussions with multiple communities across England who have shared their nuanced, often conflicting relationships with national identity.
Written and Choreographed by: Anthony Lo-Giudice
Performed (and co-created with): Andrea Harris, Brendan Murphy, Molly Procter, Hannabiell Sanders, Caroline Reece, Alex Rowland, Alex Thirkle
Puppets by: Saya Naruse
Dramaturgy: Karen Traynor
Marketing: White Hot Comms
Artistic Advisor: Morag Deyes OBE
Contains some use of strong language, and visual/spoken descriptions related to death and dying. Recommended age: 12+ (parental discretion advised).
Post Show Talk will occur after the performance.
The performance of Se Gæst | The Guest will be preceded by two short curtain raiser performances.
Maelstrom
For this work, Anthony Lo-Giudice has worked with the Boundless (Dance City’s 55+ company) artists to explore themes connected to The Guest. In particular, they have looked at the idea of protection, taking some inspiration from Prospero in Shakespeare's The Tempest and exploring 'why' the character conjures a storm.
Aetherbound by Rosie Macari and Lila Naruse
This version of Aetherbound is a hybrid dance work combining film and live performance to explore the physical balances we experience between restriction and release. Shifting between woodland landscapes and the stage, it traces a journey through nature, connection, and the enduring strength of feminine resilience.
