Dance City, the Newcastle-based dance development organisation for the North East region, is delighted to announce that Arts Council England has renewed its funding as a National Portfolio Organisation, awarding it £553,857 per year over the period 2018-22, a total investment of £2,215,428.
The funding will allow Dance City to continue to provide professional artist development and learning opportunities for the best North East dance talent, as well as region-wide community engagement and provision of life enhancing dance opportunities for young people, adults with learning and physical disabilities and for older people.
The National Portfolio Organisation funding is part of a strong, successful and sustainable financial infrastructure developed over 30 years by Dance City, which also generates income through public dance classes, hospitality and its learning academy.
Throughout 2018-22, Dance City will continue to develop its reach and impact across the North East and nationally – striving to raise the profile of the region as a centre of excellence for dance, and to provide life enhancing opportunities for local communities and young people.
Anthony Baker, Artistic Director of Dance City, says of the decision, “We’re very pleased that the Arts Council has awarded Dance City this funding, and this validation as a National Portfolio Organisation. There will be many exciting times ahead and I know the whole team is looking forward to achieving ever greater impact through dance for people of all ages and all abilities. We see everyday the positive change that dance creates in people’s lives, and we’re all immensely proud to be leading that change in the North East.
I would like to thank the amazing team and Board at Dance City for their continued dedication to driving forward the development of the organisation. They are all outstanding individuals who are working at the very highest level.”
