U.DANCE 2024

A celebration of young people’s dance across the North East

U.Dance North East 2024 provide youth groups from all over the North East with the opportunity to come together to perform, celebrate dance, and showcase their talent either ‘On Stage’ or ‘On Screen.’

Dance in all its forms is eligible at U.Dance – whether you do hip hop/street dance, jazz, theatre, ballet, South Asian dance, contemporary, folk, you name it U.Dance is for everyone!

We are honored to host one of the Sub Regional Platforms at Dance City, with the other platform’s being hosted by our partners, TIN Arts, The D Project and Forum Cinema Hexham.

This is a great opportunity for dancers to inspire, be inspired, and connect, with the chance of being selected to perform at the Regional Festival at Dance City and National Festival, presented by One Dance UK in Liverpool.

HOW DO WE TAKE PART?

To be considered for U.Dance Sub Regional Platforms groups/individuals can:

Create and submit a screen dance piece for consideration in the ‘U.Dance on Screen’ strand, with no upper limit on dancer numbers

OR

Create and submit a piece made for the stage, for consideration in the ‘U.Dance on Stage’ strand, with a maximum of 30 dancers.

The following eligibility criteria also apply:

  • Pieces must only include dancers who are aged 11 to 19 years (or up to and including age 25 for disabled dancers) on 31 July 2024.
  • Pieces must be between 2 and 7 minutes in duration.
  • Groups/individuals must be based in the UK and involve dancers who live in the UK.

HartlepoolFriday 1 March ‘On Stage’ and ‘On Screen’ U.Dance applications are welcome as part of TINArts FUSE Performance Platform which is specifically for SEND schools based in the Northeast. Please note school-based SEND groups are welcome at any other events too.

The Hippodrome, DarlingtonSaturday 9 March ‘On Stage’ and ‘On Screen’ U.Dance applications are welcome as part of SLIDE a Performance Platform for young people’s dance groups from across County Durham and Tees Valley, co-produced by TINArts and the D Project.

Forum Cinema, HexhamFriday 29 March ‘On Screen’ U.Dance applications are welcome as part of Forum Cinemas dance festival.

FURTHER INFORMATION

When you apply for the Sub Regional Platform you will be asked whether you wish to be considered for shortlisting and selection for the U.Dance National Festival. This is completely optional, however if you select this option you must commit to taking part in the U.Dance National Festival if selected.

U.Dance partners will check in with each group once details of the U.Dance National Festival 2024 are released so you can make an informed decision on whether your group opts in for consideration for shortlisting and selection. To spread representation, groups who were selected to represent their region at the U.Dance National Festival in 2023, will not be eligible for selection in 2024 (regardless of whether they attended or not).

REGIONAL & NATIONAL U.DANCE

Dance City will be hosting the Regional U.Dance on Sunday 14 April 2024.

National U.Dance 12-14 July 2024 in Liverpool.
