Discover Our Exciting SUMMER Young People’s Masterclasses!

Young People’s Masterclasses at Dance City on 5th, 6th, and 7th August with artists from:

  • New Adventures (Sir Matthew Bourne)
  • Akram Khan Company
  • Gavin McCaig

The age range is 12–19 years, with a recommended 3 years’ of prior dance experience recommended. The masterclasses will focus on contemporary and ballet. Each day runs from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Attendees can book all three as a special bundle for £150 – please get in touch with us via the ticket office to take advantage of the offer. Or are priced at £60 for a full individual day masterclass.

7th August – New Adventures

New Adventures is a pioneering dance-theatre company led by renowned choreographer Matthew Bourne. Since 1987, the company has redefined storytelling through movement, making dance-theatre accessible to all. In this one-day masterclass, participants (ages 12–19, with four+ years of dance experience preferred) will explore New Adventures’ playful and expressive creative process. The session includes a warm-up inspired by Swan Lake, learning choreography from the production, creative exploration, and a Q&A to finish.

5th August – Gavin McCaig from Northern Ballet

Gavin, from Motherwell, Scotland, trained at The Dance School of Scotland and English National Ballet School. While studying, he worked part-time with the Dance School at the Royal Academy of Dance. He joined Northern Ballet in 2014 and was promoted to Junior Soloist in 2020, performing leading roles including Acolyte in Romeo and Juliet, St. John in Jane Eyre, Athos in The Three Musketeers, and Tom in The Great Gatsby. His 2019 short film Silenced won Best Dance Short at the New Renaissance Film Festival. In 2021, his first children’s ballet Pinocchio premiered with Northern Ballet and toured nationally. He has since choreographed for Images Company, Elmhurst Ballet School, and London Children’s Ballet’s Snow White. Gavin has taught classes and workshops for Elmhurst, Northern Ballet, RAD, Scottish Ballet Associates, The Ballet Retreat, London Studio Centre, and in Portugal.

6th August – Mika from Akram Khan Company
