Class description
This Hip Hop class focuses on foundations, grooves, and developing your flow through essential BOUNCE and ROCK movements.
We train with uplifting exercises inspired by old school sounds from Slum Village, J Dilla, Hi-Tek, Busta Rhymes, and Missy Elliott, alongside newer vibes from TellaX and Jude2k.
We cover classic grooves like ATL Stomp, Roger Rabbit, Bobby Brown, and Bart Simpson, finishing with freestyle to help you build confidence, develop your own style, and stay rooted in true Hip Hop foundations.
Who is it for? Adults of all ages, beginners welcome. PLEASE NOTE THIS CLASS IS FOR ADULTS AGED 18+.
What should I wear? Comfortable clothing, trainers or socks. Please note - only clean trainers can be worn in the studio.
What do I need to bring? Bottle of water.
Teacher Annesha Parkinson
Annesha is a Newcastle-based Hip Hop dancer, artist, and choreographer. A graduate of the University of Bedfordshire with a degree in Dance & Professional Practice building a strong foundation that continues to influence her hip hop freestyle.
Annesha currently teaches Hip Hop and AfroMix at Dance City. After relocating from Hertfordshire to the North East, she became a Prince’s Trust Ambassador and launched her own dance school, ASOD, creating new opportunities for young dancers in the region.
With a long-standing relationship with Dance City spanning nine years, Annesha has taught on the CAT Programme and delivered workshops across modules for BA (Hons). Her teaching covers a wide range of styles including Hip Hop, AfroMix, Commercial, and Contemporary.
She has choreographed for artist Mcxnne for BBC Introducing, delivered workshop for the MOBO Awards, and frequently judges dance competitions such as Grow With The Flo, RAPT Street Dance Uk and Union Dance.
Known for her welcoming aura and unapologetic authenticity, Annesha is passionate about making people feel at home in her classes. She strives to inspire greatness, nurture confidence, and bring powerful energy to every space she enters.
With a deep love for both teaching and performing, Annesha seamlessly blends multiple styles into her freestyles, creating work that is expressive, dynamic, and rooted in culture.
