About
Class description:
This Afro Fusion class blends Dancehall and Afrobeats styles in a high-energy, feel-good environment. It’s a fun way to explore Afro-Caribbean and African culture through movement and music.
The music used in class draws from Dancehall, Afrobeats, Reggaeton, and Amapiano, with the music heavily influencing the movement. Expect hip grooves, body rolls, whining, and fast-paced footwork.
Each class includes targeted warm-ups that prepare you for the routine. For example, when focusing on Dancehall, we’ll drill foundational moves like Bogle, Log On, No Linga, and Butterfly to help you confidently pick up the choreography.
Who is it for? Adults of all ages and abilities
What should I wear? Comfortable workout clothes, pumps/trainers
What do I need to bring? Bottle of water
Teacher: Annesha Parkinson.
Annesha is a Newcastle-based Hip Hop dancer, artist, and choreographer. A graduate of the University of Bedfordshire with a degree in Dance & Professional Practice building a strong foundation that continues to influence her hip hop freestyle.
Annesha currently teaches Hip Hop and AfroMix at Dance City. After relocating from Hertfordshire to the North East, she became a Prince’s Trust Ambassador and launched her own dance school, ASOD, creating new opportunities for young dancers in the region.
With a long-standing relationship with Dance City spanning nine years, Annesha has taught on the CAT Programme and delivered workshops across modules for BA (Hons). Her teaching covers a wide range of styles including Hip Hop, AfroMix, Commercial, and Contemporary.
