About
The aim of this class is to embody fear—not only as a shadow that restricts us, but as an energy that can ignite movement, generate awareness and reveal truth. This class will trace the edges of Gary Lang’s work, The Other Side of Me—dancers will investigate how fear shapes movement, presence, and expression, turning instinct into performance.

This class will include a warm-up of Long Grass Yoga, followed by Long Grass Ballet.

This class may include partnering and strength work.

Gary Lang is a Larrakia man, from Darwin, Northern Territory and one of Australia’s most senior First Nations choreographers. Artistic Director of Gary Lang NT Dance Company, a NAISDA graduate and alumnus of AIDT The Company, Bangarra and Dancenorth. Since 2002 Gary Lang has choreographed 9 seminal works in the Aboriginal dance canon, including GOOSE LAGOON, Mokuy, Waŋa (Spirit), Forbidden, Milnjiya, Milky Way (River of Stars) created with the Western Australian Ballet. His signature “long grass ballet” style draws deeply from Larrakia and Yolŋu traditions while reimagining ballet and contemporary dance forms.

The Other Side of Me by Gary Lang NT Dance Company performance will be at Northern Stage, Newcastle upon Tyne, 7:00pm with in conversation Q&A.
