Call out for Dance City’s annual commissions programme is now open!

Dance City is seeking applications from dance artists/makers from across the UK to apply for our annual Full Production and Early-Stage Work Commissions which will support up to four artists/companies to develop new dance work.

Dance City is also seeking applications from dance artists/makers from across the North East to apply for our annual Charlotte Grant Early Career Award Commissions which will support up to two artists/companies to develop new dance work.

The overall Dance City Commission 2022 – 2023 budget is up to £40,000. £2,522 of which was raised with 62 crowdfunding supporters as a result of TWELVE – an event held on Tuesday 23 March 2021, the date which marked one year since the UK went into lockdown to save lives and protect the NHS from the coronavirus pandemic. Dance City broadcast a 12 minute live dance stream, on the hour every hour for twelve hours from 12noon. The aim was to give visibility to dance artists, their resilience and to engage audiences.

The three commission strands are as follows:

  • Full Production
  • Early-Stage Work
  • Charlotte Grant Early Career Award

As well as a cash award, each commission comes with an extensive package of in-kind support including studio space, marketing and producing support.

Expressions of interest are invited from dance artists and companies from across the UK. Some awards will focus on supporting artists/companies from, who live and/or have trained at undergraduate level or above in the North East of England.

Deadline for expressions of interest is 6 January 2022.
