This week Dance City is delighted to be welcoming back renowned dance artist Dora Frankel and her company for a Creative Summer residency as she develop’s her latest work Figures In A Floating Landscape. 

Figures in a Floating Landscape, part 2 of Frankel’s Turner Trilogy, is inspired by the later work of the great radical landscape painter JMW Turner and is shaped by the effects of environmental damage.

The work is a 40-minute indoor/outdoor performance co-created with long-time collaborator composer Peter Coyte has been in gestation for the past 6 years.

Working with three musicians (Peter Coyte, Thomas Gardner and Martin Elliott of Michael Nyman’s band) and four dancers (Luca Braccia, Livia Massarelli, Becky Horne and Zara Sands) it’s a dance, music, sonic soundscape performance which will form part of the Kent wide celebratory events as Turner Contemporary hosts the Turner Prize in Margate this year.

The work will premiere at Kent’s Gulbenkian Theatre part, of Canterbury University at 7.30pm, Friday November 1st as part of a double bill with Haze by Kent composer Helen Caddick.

Throughout their Creative Summer residency from September 2-6, the company will be hosting free daily class for professional dance artists, led by celebrated dancers Luca Braccia and Livia Massarelli, at 9.30 each morning.
