This April, internationally acclaimed Australian choreographer‑director Lewis Major brings Triptych to Dance City – a stunning fusion of movement, light and design which has captivated audiences across the globe.
A unique collaboration between Major and his longtime mentor, legendary British dancemaker Russell Maliphant OBE, Triptych unfolds as an evening of three compelling works exploring poetic possibilities, universal rhythms and cycles. Performed by Major’s world‑class dancers, this is a captivating evening of dance, of connection between internal and external worlds – of non-duality – all set within a whirling maelstrom of movement, sound and light.
The production arrives at Dance City for one night only on Wednesday 15 April 2026 at 7.30pm. With a running time of 55 minutes and no interval, Triptych promises an intense, immersive experience that blurs the lines between dance, design and sensory performance.
A Mixed Bill of Three Distinct Works
Triptych comprises three short pieces:
- Two x Three – Choreographed by Russell Maliphant OBE, with music by Andy Cowton and lighting by Michael Hulls OBE.
- Unfolding – Choreographed by Lewis Major, with composition by James Peter Brown and visual design by Fausto Brusamolino.
- Epilogue (Acts 1 & 2) – Both choreographed by Lewis Major, set to music ranging from A Filetta to Dane Yates after Debussy, accompanied by Major’s own lighting design.
An Evening of Embodied Connection
At the heart of Triptych lies a deep enquiry into the connection between internal and external worlds. Major’s choreography embraces non‑duality – dissolving boundaries between dancers, space and audience – and offers moments of intricate beauty, calm, expansion and intensity.
With its sculpted lighting, textured soundscapes and rigorous physicality, the work invites audiences not just to watch but to feel: to become part of a shifting environment where every detail holds meaning.
A Global Success Comes to Newcastle
After collecting five‑star reviews across Adelaide, Edinburgh, Sydney, Brazil, Ireland and beyond, Triptych now reaches Newcastle audiences for a rare UK performance.
This is an opportunity to experience contemporary dance at its most distilled, atmospheric and visually arresting – a production that replaces narrative with sheer sensory richness.
