On Thursday 5 March Dance City is hosting a full day of free artist development sessions to help develop and inform the practice of professional dance artists, facilitators will include Gary Clarke, Sarah Shead of Spin Arts and members of balletLORENT. Attendance is free but places are limited so please make sure to book early to avoid disappointment.

The structure of the day will be as follows…

 

9:30 Pro Class with James MacGillivray, balletLORENT

James MacGillivray, will deliver a contemporary technique class in which dancers are encouraged to work in a grounded and centered way, but also to focus on expansive movement, use of weight, artistic expression and group connection. By combining structured exercises with improvised sequences, the class allows space for both technical development and artistic play.

This is an opportunity for professional artists to book a one-on-one meeting with Sarah, an established and successful dance producer, in order to discuss an idea or project. Sarah will provide professional and informed guidance and advice.

 

11:30 Meet The Producer Session: Intro to working with Producers with Sarah Shead, Spin Arts

Sarah Shead is the Director and Creative Producer for Spin Arts working with artists/companies such as; Carlos Pons Guerra, DeNada Dance Theatre, Earthfall, Sonia Sabri Company, Seeta Patel and Mavin Khoo, to name a few. Recent positions include; Artistic and Business Development Manager at 2Faced Dance Company and Fundraiser for Sonia Sabri Company.

Sarah has played an influential role in setting up and delivering artist development schemes such as ‘Catapult’ and ‘Northern Connections’ with the Northern School of Contemporary and CARP with The Civic, Barnsley. Sarah is currently a Trustee for Eclipse Theatre and is a trained relational dynamics coach.
Earlier roles included; What Next Project Coordinator (Creative Partnerships), Continuing Professional Development Coordinator (Dance4), Artistic Programmes Manager (Yorkshire Dance), Programmes Director (CidaCo), Associate Producer on a scheme with Dance City and The Empty Space, and an Associate Coach (PANDA).

16:30 Mock Audition with Gary Clarke

Gary Clarke is an established dancer, choreographer and artistic director. He trained at The Electric Theatre Studios and The Northern School of Contemporary Dance where he graduated in 2000.

Gary has worked as a performer with some of the UK’s leading dance companies and choreographers including Lea Anderson’s The Cholmondeleys & The Featherstonehaughs, Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, Lloyd Newson’s DV8 Physical Theatre, Liv Lorent’s balletLORENT, Candoco Dance Company / Jerome Bel, Bock & Vincenzi, Retina Dance Company, Nigel Charnock + Company, Frauke Redquart and David Rosenberg / Fuel Theatre, Phoenix Dance Theatre, Maresa Von Stockert & Tilted Productions, Sadlers Wells & Young Vic Productions, TC Howard, Compagnie Felix Ruckert, Polar Produce Productions, Future Cinema and ACE Dance & Music.
