“Best queer night out in the North East!”

The ultimate celebration of the North East’s LGBTQIA+ culture, The Curious ball lands at Dance City for the fourth time on Saturday 1st July.

Produced by Newcastle based charity Curious Arts, champions of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual arts, artists and communities, The Curious Ball first made its mark on Newcastle’s cultural calendar in 2017. Creating a safe space for QTIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities to express themselves, be visible, represented and celebrated.
Curious Arts work in partnership with arts and community organisations across the region

From humble beginnings to Dance City’s theatre, The Curious Ball has grown to become “the best queer night out in the North East” (Audience member). Empowering, affirming and powered by queer joy, if you’re looking for an unforgettable night-out with your friends or chosen family, this is it.

Community members, allies and professional dance artists take to the stage to serve up unique looks, fierce dance moves and compete for the crown. With categories including Vogue solo, Fashionista and Binary Breaker, expect to experience a display of Vogue excellence, fashion worthy of the catwalk and unapologetic expression!

Icon of UK ballroom, Rikki Beadle-Blair MBE returns as host for their third Curious Ball. Navigating us through the night and sharing the all important art and history of ballroom, with more costume changes than you can count! Supported by a panel of judges still to be announced…

“The Curious ball is always a highlight in our Curious calendar. It’s such a joy to create and share a space that truly celebrates our diverse LGBTQIA+ communities here in the North East and wider North, through creative expression and unapologetic visibility. It’s a unique moment in time and a night unlike anything you’ll have experienced before!”- Curious Arts.

With a selection of creative events around the North East, Curious Arts are providing LGBTQIA+ people and their allies and communities with safe space to express themselves and be visible, represented and celebrated.

Dance City has proudly hosted the Curious Ball as part of the Curious Arts festival for the last 5 years and Dance City are once again welcoming members of the North East community, allies, and professional vogue houses serve up unique looks. You can expect music and fierce dance moves, big fashion and a celebration of those within the LGBTQIA+ space and also those of colour who developed Voguing in the 1980’s.
