Dance City is pleased to announce the appointment of Alex Anslow as Interim Creative Producer (part time) alongside her role as Programme Coordinator, continuing the organisations commitment to providing support and opportunities to dance artists in the North East. This interim appointment covers Phil Douglas as he is currently Interim Artistic Director pending the recruitment of a new CEO/Artistic Director at Dance City.

Alex is a Programme Coordinator, Events Manager and Producer working in the Cultural Sector and has worked at Dance City as Executive Assistant and Programme Coordinator for eight years, working with the Artistic Director to programme high quality, professional performances that challenge, inspire and entertain audiences.

Alongside working at Dance City Alex works as a freelance Event Manager at arts festivals across the region including Festival of Thrift and Lumiere Durham. Alex graduated from York University with a BA Hons in History of Art and is a Postgraduate of Northumbria University with a Masters in Cultural Event and Conference Management.

Alex said: ‘I am thrilled to be taking on the interim role of Creative Producer alongside Programme Coordinator here at Dance City. Dance City’s offer to professional artists and companies must be relevant, accessible and transparent and this is what I endeavour to achieve with the exciting projects and programmes planned over the next few months.

During Summer/Autumn 2019 Dance City sought to investigate, evidence and contextualise the needs of artists. In response to this an Artist Manifesto will be launched early in the New Year which will clearly show Dance City’s intentions and motivations, with artists at the very heart of them. This will really set a precedent of how dedicated we are in listening to and supporting artists moving forward.

It is a time of change and organisational development at Dance City and I very much look forward to working more closely and creatively with the Dance City team and professional artists and companies, regionally, nationally and internationally.’

Interim Artistic Director Phil Douglas said ‘I am delighted that Alex is able to undertake the role of interim Creative Producer over the next six months. Alex has been a central member of the Dance City team, contributing to programming, project development and artist support activities for a number of years. Alex’s knowledge of the regions dance artists and Dance City is really valuable as we introduce new activity and refocus our artist offer.’
