Dance City is a vibrant and friendly place where people come together to take part, enjoy, experience and talk about dance; where professional and aspiring dancers meet, learn and create; somewhere to watch inspiring dance performances and somewhere for all to come to and get involved in dance.

Dance City has several studios across three floors in their building in Newcastle city centre, they range from 48sqm – 148sqm and all equipped with sound systems and sprung dance floors, some suitable for aerial. From the w/c 29 July to the w/c 2 September we are opening up our studios and offering up to 30 individual residencies.

The Summer Residency programme exists to support dance artists in developing single or collaborative ideas involving choreography, dance and movement.

Our aim is to offer at least half of the Creative Summer studio space to artists based in the North East of England and the other half to artists working outside of the region.

Summer Residency Invitation:

You are invited to develop ideas and movement for up to one week, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm, in one of our purpose-built studios. On the Monday there will be a welcome  meeting for artists and staff to get to know each other and on the Friday you are invited to hold a 20 – 30 minute sharing, open to the artistic community and public to attend to encourage conversations and relationships.

It is not possible for Dance City to offer any cash funding towards the residencies. Travel and accommodation expenses will also be the artist’s responsibility. We can, however, offer in-kind support for any funding applications that you may wish to submit, on request, in the form of a letter of support and details of the monetary value of the in-kind studio space and support that Dance City can offer.
