Dance City has joined forces with Teesside University to create an innovative new postgraduate dance degree – the only one of its kind in the North East.

The course, delivered by Dance City in partnership with Teesside University, is designed for dance artists and practitioners who want to enhance and develop their skills and knowledge in the field of dance. It is the only dance MA in the North East providing new opportunities to professionals and graduates who aspire to be at the cutting-edge of dance.

The new MA Professional Dance Practice course forms part of Dance City’s Learning Academy which offers excellent quality formal dance training for talented young people aged from 11 right through to postgraduate level.

Delivered in Dance City’s state of the art building, the MA is an excellent platform for those aspiring for a new future in dance to radically enhance their skills and be the dance leaders of tomorrow.

The announcement of the course comes just a year after the successful launch of Dance City’s BA (Hons) Dance Professional Practice run with Gateshead College and Northumbria University, now recruiting into its second year.

Anthony Baker, Joint-CEO and Artistic Director of Dance City said, “We are delighted to be partnering Teesside University for this excellent new course which will be of an extremely high standard, comparable to any Dance MA in the UK.  TeessideUniversity, with their vocational experience and drive for quality are an obvious partner with a shared vision for dance in the North East. It offers an amazing opportunity to dance artists in the North East that has not previously existed.”

“Our ‘LearningAcademy’ is going from strength to strength, helping to nurture a thriving dance ecology in the North East. We greatly value our partnerships with Teesside University, Northumbria University and GatesheadCollege in working with us to deliver these excellent courses.”

Sharon Paterson, Assistant Dean (Curriculum Development and Innovation, Educational Partnerships and Opportunities) in the University’s School of Arts & Media, said: “This is a really exciting partnership that will allow people pursuing a career in dance to study at postgraduate level – utilising the expertise of both Teesside University and Dance City.

“We are passionate about creating the dance leaders of the future and are confident that this partnership will provide the opportunities needed for a successful career in this ever expanding industry.”
