Curious Arts are seeking applications for a number of roles to support the development and delivery of Curious Festival 2018’s young people’s programme on Sunday 1st July.

Curious Arts are a Newcastle and Gateshead based not-for- profit organisation working to develop LGBTQ arts, artists and audiences across the North East of England, celebrating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Culture through the arts.

Each July Curious Arts produce and present Curious Festival – an annual celebration of LGBTQ culture across the North East. Increasing visibility, dialogue and understanding of the LGBTQ community.

 

Programme Lead

Seeking applications for the role of Young Peoples Programme Lead, to support
the development and delivery of Curious Festival 2018’s young peoples programme on Sunday 1st July. We are keen to hear from individuals or partnerships with experience of working with children and young people and diverse communities within the arts and culture sector. Female Programmer

Seeking submissions from Programmers, Producers and Artistic Curators who identify as female from and/or working in the North East of England, to work alongside the Curious Arts team to programme BALTIC is Curious – Curious Festival 2018’s closing day programme on Sunday 8th July. BALTIC is Curious 2018’s programme will champion queer female artists. Closing with BALTIC Live is Curious, an evening culminating in a performance of SLAP AND TICKLE by Liz Aggiss. Deadline for Submissions: Midnight Thursday 3rd May 2018. Visual Arts Exhibition Opportunities

Two opportunities are available to exhibit for 7 days throughout Curious Festival (1st – 8th July 2018) with a showcase launch event on Monday 2nd July. The exhibitions will be hosted at The Curious Festival Hub (8-9 Central Arcade, Newcastle) and founding Curious Festival partner, Breeze Creatives (Bamburgh House). Deadline for Submissions: Midnight Monday 7th May 2018. Interview/discussions w/c Monday 21st May. Shortlisted applicants are invited to attend the Curious Festival Queer Creative Challenge Day at Northern Stage on Saturday 9th June.

‘Queering the Space’ Opportunities

Seeking submissions from Artists and Creatives to create queer interventions in and around Curious Festival 2018’s sites and venues from 1st – 8th July 2018. We want to hear your ideas for pop up activity that engages with Curious Festival’s audience and support you to Queer the Space. A wide range of cross art form work is embraced from mainstream with a traditional appeal to the innovative and experimental. ‘Queer Itch’ Bursaries

Seeking submissions from Artists, Producers and Promoters from and/or working in the North East of England, to present their work at Curious Festival 2018’s Scratch night on Friday 6th July at Alphabetti Theatre. We are keen to hear about any ideas and current works in progress, no matter what stage of development they are in. As part of Curious Festival 2018’s development, we would be particularly interested to hear about work from queer artists of color, work that is female led and work made for/with families and children/young people. Festival Commission Opportunities

Seeking submissions from Artists, Producers and Promoters from and/or working in the North East of England to develop an existing or create a new Queer art/theatre work. The work will be supported to develop a small scale tour of sharing’s and showcases in 2019 across the North East, with a performance in Curious Festival 2019. We are keen to hear about any current works in progress, no matter what stage of development they are in. Curious Arts will provide ongoing support of the commissioned piece and advice to the commissioned artist/company for seeking any additional funding for the project.
