Job Opportunity: Director of Programmes at Wac Arts
Wac Arts in Belsize Park, London is an independent charity with an annual turnover of £1.7 m, founded in 1978. Its mission is to support young people who face exceptional challenges and hardship expand their life opportunities and aspirations through arts and media. Since its foundation, Wac Arts has touched the lives of over thirty thousand young people.
They strongly believe that the arts should be a right not a privilege and that learning in the performing arts can give people invaluable tools for life; it can build confidence, improve self-esteem and empower people to overcome great difficulties. They support young people from 5-25 through performing arts and media training, with a focus on innovation and a drive for excellence. They believe every individual has a talent and it’s their job to help them find it and go on to achieve their potential in life.
Wac Arts has a track record of success over nearly four decades having nurtured and developed some of the UK’s leading diverse talent including Courtney Pine, Ms Dynamite, Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Sophie Okonedo, and is leading the way in producing the future generation of diverse talent.
This is a unique time to join Wac Arts with the appointment of a new Chief Executive as it transitions from being a founder led organisation and moves forward the Board’s work of the last two and a half years. They are looking for a member of the senior team, to work closely with the Chief Executive as part of their leadership team, who is an experienced and dynamic professional with a love, commitment and experience of inclusive education for young people.
They are looking for a visionary and strategic candidate who will play a key role in defining and developing the future history and success of Wac Arts artistically. The Director of Programmes will proactively work to enhance and raise the profile of the organisation, being a public spokesperson in the arts / education / cultural sectors and use their strong professional industry network to enhance Wac Arts.
The Director of Programmes will lead on all pedagogy of artistic programmes, (ensuring best practice, compliance, safeguarding, monitoring and reporting are continually developed and delivered) and who is confident in supporting the team in the preparing, monitoring and delivering all artistic (including inclusion) budgets and programmes.
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop and implement a 3-5 year Strategy and plan for Wac Arts, continuing to raise the profile and impact of everything we do.
They are very excited to be embarking on the next stage in the journey of this remarkable organisation that many call “one of the best keep secrets in London”.
Closing date 28th October 2016, first round interviews 3rd November 2016.
