In conjunction with U.Dance 2015, Pulse is a series of events which celebrate the best in youth dance across the region and provide groups with the opportunity to perform in a professional space, be inspired, see each other’s work and acknowledge the talent of young creators and performers. There were 6 Pulse events for 11-19 year olds throughout the region in March, with over 800 young people taking to the stage to perform. Dance City has played host to the groups who have been selected from across the region with some of these groups being chosen to represent the North East at U.Dance Festival in Plymouth in July.

North East based choreographer and Dance City supported artist Anthony Lo-Giudice choreographed two pieces for two groups from the North East; Youth Dance Tynedale and Vizavis Youth Dance Company from Newcastle. These groups took part in New Dimensions, a strand of U.Dance 2015 aimed at presenting more challenging and mature works for young dancers. Both of these groups have been selected alongside two other nationwide groups to take part in the U.Dance Festival in Plymouth to represent the UK’s best youth dance.

Anthony Baker, Dance City Artistic Director and Joint CEO said:

“U.Dance is a unique opportunity for dance companies from across England to get involved in a national event, showing their work to many hundreds of other young people who are inspired by and love dance. Well done to Anthony Lo Guidance for his amazing work in getting two companies he has choreographed on to the national level of the U.Dance event. Dance City has also two representatives at the national event in Plymouth, Tineke, a performance group from TIN Arts based in Durham and Division, a group based at Dance City in Newcastle.  It promises to be a fantastic 3 day event.”
