About the company

Alicia is a North East based dance artist, she trained in classical dance at Northern Ballet School then progressed on to study contemporary dance, graduating with a First Class Honors in 2011. Alicia expanded her creative performance practice further at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, graduating in 2013 with a Masters in Creative Practice, specialising in choreography and dance for the camera.

Emma is a recent Laban graduate originally from Hull. Emma is currently a member of Company of Others. As a Freelance Artist Emma has had the pleasure of working on feature films, commercials and music videos. Last year Emma was involved in the CGI movement for the Warner Brothers Fantastic Beasts Film.

Due to the nature of both Alicia and Emma’s professional experiences, Collision Dance Theatre’s choreographic style focuses on the interweaving of dance theatre, imagery and highly physical contact movement, bound together by a strong dramaturgical thread.

About the work

Alicia and Emma are looking to devise an intimate and visually captivating live duet inspired by the mental and physical effects of the condition known as Smile Mask Syndrome (SMS) with the working title Hidden Truths. The piece will be a live performance adaptation of a short research film the company created around the same subject matter entitled T(w)o You.

Set in the present-day world, where online personas are everything and the lines between fact and fiction are blurred. The piece will follow the journey of two females as they prepare for the largest mascaraed ball of all, the infamous night out on the town. Battling their emotional and physical demons, they are forced to think about the undecided parts of themselves, elements not quite prepared for outer consumption or judgement. As they seek connection, compassion and permission from one another to shed their masks.
