Full Stage Commission – How Long is a Piece of String?

With 20 years of professional experience, Jennifer Essex has presented work across Canada, Europe and Mexico. Her choreography has been supported by The Canada Council for the Arts, Arts Council England, Pavilion Dance, Middlesbrough Council, Stockton International Riverside Festival and Tees Valley Dance, among others.

In 2017, with the assistance of a commission from Dance City, Jennifer Essex, together with poet Harry Man, formed Fully Booked Theatre, a children’s dance theatre company. They created their first show for children and families, Space Rebel Princess. Since then, they have been performing for thousands of families in theatres, libraries, parks, community centres, town centres and festivals throughout the UK.

How Long is a Piece of String? will be a magical and immersive piece of interactive dance theatre for children aged 3+ and their families. It will engage imaginations through sensory opportunities to play and inspire curiosity and learning through physical movement and interactive sound technology.  Audiences will be invited to be a part of the show and to play along with the wildly woolly creatures, String and Strong, as they learn how to laugh, play, and connect.

“I am so bowled-over and excited to be working with Dance City and to realise How Long is a Piece of String? The joy and playfulness of String and Strong remind us of the joy of establishing new connections with one another and I can’t wait to help bring their world to life.”
