The Hope Etudes

Tim graduated from Sigurd Leeder’s international studio school forty years ago. Like apprentices, he learnt his work directly from Sigurd – very much developed with Rudolph Laban in Germany – and virtually all of this was done through learning etudes – miniature studies that explored challenges around physical dynamics, spatiality and composition. With the 3 Hope Etudes Tim has challenged himself to develop a hopescape. Hope comes into its own when crisis looms, opening us to new possibilities.

Tim Rubidge studied with Sigurd Leeder in Switzerland and since 1975 has explored and devised many new dance works, presenting solo and small ensemble choreographies and performances nationally and internationally in cities and communities in the UK, Europe, USA and South Africa. In parallel he has developed and directed ground-breaking community participatory projects. Since 2005 Tim has conceived, collaborated and directed a series of site-specific performances that have developed and drawn on imaginative, physical and sensory experience. He has been the recipient of many grants and awards.
