COMMUNITY CAST CALL OUT – Rendez-Vous Dance

An opportunity for non professional volunteers

Would you like to take part in a professional new dance performance?

Rendez-Vous dance is offering an opportunity for community participation for people from Newcastle and surroundig areas to take part in the creation of the new work from award-winning choreographer Mathieu Geffré.

Let’s MEET, DANCE and SHARE our stories

“What songs may do” is the highly anticipated first production by award-winning choreographer Mathieu Geffré. This dance piece commissioned by Dance City and supported by the Arts Council England will tell the story of a couple of two gay men attending the concert Nina Simone gave at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1976.

We are inviting people to make up a community company to take part of our community workshops, rehearse and perform as the audience members of Nina Simone’s concert in the show.

As part of this company, you would be supporting the main cast as a vital part of the production, and have the opportunity to be creative, improve your health , build confidence, make friends and work with artists who will care for you.

We are looking for the young, mature and everything in between. We want this project to be the most welcoming and inclusive possible. We are particularly interested in hearing from members of the BAME and LGBTQIA+ communities. You can have absolutely no dance experience – we will guide you through the process.

We will meet one Saturday a month at Dance City for dance workshops. We will then create the dance piece together before sharing the work with our audiences in May 2020.

We want you to be enthusiastic and excited about this creative project.
