Joelene English Dance Theatre Audition Notice

Joelene English Dance Theatre seeks 1 female and 1 male dance artist for their new full length production of Alice:The Lost Chapter and UK National Tour.

Joelene English Dance Theatre is interested in using dance, film and theatre to explore human nature when destiny becomes trapped by reality.

Joelene English Dance Theatre’s work combines taut choreography, beautiful scenography and emotional performance. Commissioned by Dance City and previously supported by Arts Council England, Through the use of intricate set design and diverse multi-mediums, Joelene creates immersive worlds that reveal sensitive and highly emotional subjects.

JEDT will be delving into the complexities of Lewis Carroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson) and his obscure imagination, his disposition and his astounding literature.

Alice in Wonderland is riddled with Lewis’s upbringing, childlike behaviours, psychology and mental disorders.

We are looking for multifaceted physical, intellectual performers with strong individual movement quality and skills in character and spoken work. Must have strong Contemporary technique, excellent improvisational skills and an openness to work creatively and collaboratively.

JEDT is known for their dark concepts and emotive undertones, successful candidates will have to offer a lot of themselves emotionally and intellectually throughout the project.

Rehearsal dates: 5 weeks running between 7 March – 13 April 2018

Where: Newcastle upon Tyne (UK)

Fees: This is a paid opportunity (pending funding)

Tour dates: Autumn 2018 (dates TBC)

Travel and accommodation allowance provided for rehearsal period and tour dates.

Candidates must be available for all dates required.
