Scratch Bursaries – Curious Arts

Opportunity: Curious Arts is seeking submissions from Artists, Producers and Promoters from and/or working in the North East of England, to present their work at Curious Festival 2019’s Scratch night ‘Scratch and Lemon’ on Friday 5th July at Alphabetti Theatre. We are keen to hear about any ideas and current works in progress, no matter what stage of development they are in.

Proposals: Curious Arts understands that audiences for queer work are dynamic and developing and is keen to both support and partner with early career and established Artists and Companies. We embrace a wide range of work from mainstream with a traditional appeal to the innovative and experimental.

However, we ask that work submitted for consideration fulfils one or more of the following criteria:
1. Explores lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) themes.
2. Is of interest to an LGBTQ audience.
3. Is created or presented by LGBTQ artists.

As part of Curious Festival 2019’s development, we would be particularly interested to hear about work from queer artists of colour and work by trans and non-binary artists.

The work presented must be a performance, cabaret or live performance art piece from 10 to 20 minutes in duration. The final programme will be selected by Curious Arts in consultation with partners and producers at host venues. During the work’s development and the event, the selected Artists/Companies will promote their work as supported by Curious Arts and Northern Stage.

We welcome proposals from Artists/Companies that detail your work/experience, the work you would like to propose and why you feel Curious Festival is an appropriate platform for your work. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to discuss their proposal by phone call between 10th-12th June 2019.
Bursaries: There are a small number of scratch bursaries available of up to £250 each (inc. travel and
expenses) to perform at the Scratch Night event on 5th July.

Additional Support: Curious Arts will support you in sourcing rehearsal space and will meet with you to discuss and support your idea.
