Improving lives through the power of South Asian dance – Akademi

Akademi has launched the 3-year, Big Lottery funded, Dance Well project. Dance Well aims to improve the health, happiness and well-being of older people who may be suffering with poor health or living with dementia, through the use of dance, music and movement. These workshops will take place in community organisations, care homes and hospitals in London and we are currently looking for dance artists and musicians who are interested in delivering these. If you have previously worked on their Chelsea and Westminster or Guys and St Thomas’ performances please be aware that Dance Well will be participatory rather than just performance based so you must be comfortable with this.

As a Dance Well artist it will be imperative that you have sufficient experience and/or training in working with older people, those with dementia and/or in hospital settings. Akademi will arrange a training day (date and cost TBC) to cover all of these aspects, and attendance at this training day will be essential in order to work on any of the Dance Well Projects.

If you are, or know any other artists who might be interested in being part of the Dance Well pool of artists please email frances@akademi.co.uk with a copy of your CV and this information form – Questions for dance artists by Sunday 14th February. Please also let us know if there is one setting you are particularly interested in e.g. hospitals.
