BA (Hons) Professional Dance & MA Advanced Dance Performance

Education is a cornerstone of activity at Dance City, and formal further and higher education in dance has long been a part of the organisation’s contribution to local, regional, national and international dance. The organisation is now in a position to build on the innovations of decades of work to develop its activities in this area, to continue to provide relevant, meaningful dance education for a range of learners.  As such, the following roles have become available:

BA & MA Programme Leader (full time, for 12 months)

Salary: £36,000 – £38,500 (per annum)

Reports to: Interim Head of HE

Responsible for: Senior Lecturers and Lecturers

Role purpose: to lead and develop high quality dance education activity delivering the objectives of the Dance City’s higher education programmes, particularly the BA (Hons) Professional Dance and, as required, the MA Advance Dance Performance, delivered in partnership with Sunderland University. The post holder will be responsible for managing and the delivery of teaching and learning activity in studio and classroom settings and, where necessary, online. They will be a dance specialist and have knowledge of High Education.

About the role of BA & MA Programme Leader:
Dance City is seeking a highly motivated and forward-thinking Programme Leader to manage both the BA (Hons) Professional Dance and MA Advanced Dance Performance, delivered in close partnership with University of Sunderland. The successful candidate will be an organised and enthusiastic manager with experience of teaching and leading activity up to Level 7, with excellent administrative skills and a commitment to the pastoral care of students. They should have teaching expertise in at least two of the following: contemporary dance technique(s), ballet, dance techniques outside the Western concert dance lineage, dance performance, choreography, dance/arts administration and management, dance teaching and leading (curricular and extra-curricular/community dance), and/or dance history, analysis and research/scholarship. The role is hands-on, and the new Programme Leader will be required to work mostly from Dance City buildings in Newcastle and Sunderland.

Dance City Classes

Ballet Teacher (part time)

Dance City Newcastle offers a wide range of drop-in dance classes for people of all ages and abilities. We are recruiting a Ballet teacher for our adults classes on Sundays.

Role: To deliver engaging and accessible Ballet classes to adults of all ages, from absolute beginners to improvers level. Classes take place in the studio and online via Zoom.
Rate of Pay: £28 per hour

Hours: 2 hours per week during term times. Part-time, to commence in September 2021 on Sundays 10.30am – 12.30pm

Finance and Administration

Finance Coordinator

Salary: £22,000 – £24,000 per annum, pro-rata

Reports to: Finance Director

Responsible for: Any Finance Assistants

Role Purpose: To implement, develop and coordinate the activities of the Finance Team as part of Dance City’s Finance and Operations Department.

To be a key point of administration and operational contact for colleagues and Board of Trustees, as well as key external partners and customers. The coordinator will ensure the smooth running of the finance department by providing day to day finance administrative, processing, and analytical support.

DC Cafe

Temporary Cafe Supervisor & Cafe Assistant

Salary: £10.25 p/h (Supervisor rate) and £9 p/h (Assistant rate)

Reports to: Café Manager

Role Purpose: To deliver a high quality food and drink experience to visitors to the DC Cafe.

Dance City is looking for two friendly people to join our café team to help support us as we return to ‘business as usual’. Both roles will involve interacting with customers, using the till, food preparation, using the coffee machine, and serving food and drinks. The Supervisor roles carries some additional duties which are detailed in the job description.

Board Members

The Board of Dance City is looking to appoint new Board Members to provide inspirational leadership and strategic vision to take the charitable organisation onto its next stage of development. New Board Members will help us to ensure a sustainable business model that successfully serves our audiences, communities and stakeholders for decades to come.

Dance City is a charity and its main objective is that of promoting, maintaining, improving and educating by the encouragement of the arts. We primarily focus on dance, but touch on drama and music and many other artforms too.

These are voluntary roles and no financial remuneration is offered to any board member beyond reasonable travel expenses.

Time Commitment:

Minimum of four board meetings per year (usually late afternoon in Newcastle or on Zoom).

Annual Board Away Day.

Occasional individual meetings with Executive team or Chair.

Sub-committee meetings as required (at least quarterly)

Attendance at least two Dance City events per year.

The overall time commitment is estimated at 1-2 days per quarter.
