To celebrate the New Year, Dance City is delighted to be launching a whole host of new classes and workshops to kick off 2020 in style, and give everyone the chance to find a new passion.

Dancing is great for the mind and body and can improve and enrich our lives in so many ways, not to mention it’s fun! The cardio workout dancing provides both in classes and when busting a move in the toon greatly improves your aerobic fitness especially when done regularly.

In addition there is a growing body of evidence to suggest dance improves mental functioning and actually reduces symptoms of many illnesses including Parkinson’s disease and dementia.

Workshops

Dance City has gone all out with its programme of one off workshops in the new term, sprinkling in some exciting guest events from local artists and companies alongside ever popular Hang Aerial, Hang Stretch Yoga and Hang Out & Dance.

 

Heart Opening Yoga 16+

Friday 14 February, 6-7pm

Take time for you to indulge in meditation, breath work, Vinyasa Flow and an extended Savasana, bringing your awareness to self-love and care. This workshop is perfect for those who would like to experience a loving yet energising sequence at a pace that allows time and space to breathe deeply.

Classic Burlesque 18+

Saturday 14 March, 3-5pm

Unleash your inner burlesque star just in time for Valentine’s Day in this two hour introductory burlesque workshop. Burlesque champions the glitz and glamour of the showgirl and celebrates the individual by welcoming all ladies of any age, shape, size and ability to embrace its charms. It is fantastic for a giggle, build self-confidence and channel your inner burlesque goddess.

Yoga Beats 16+

Saturday 28 March, 3-4.30pm

Relax and unwind, an immersive afternoon of yoga with a live DJ set by Dog & Fox, alias of local electronic artist Jack Burton. Instructor Lizzie Klotz will deliver a playful and energetic Vinyasa flow, synchronising body, mind and breath to the beats of Dog & Fox, featuring laid-back Brazilian sounds, dreamy ambient, subtle synths and relaxing grooves.

April Fools – Physical Comedy 16+ 

Wednesday 1 April, 7-8pm

An introduction to comedy this April Fools day. A unique workshop by local circus theatre company Circ Motif that will develop improvisation, comedic timing, and physical comedy skills. Explore comedy through game playing, devising methods and performance techniques.

Clownabatics 7+ 

Wednesday 1 April, 5.30-6.30pm

A creative physical comedy class by Circ Motif that explores acrobatic comedy using clowning and slapstick techniques. In this class you will learn to roll, tumble, trip and fall using the foundations of slapstick and acrobatic techniques to build your physical comedy style.
