How to you move through school, through the city and through life on wheels? What doors are open to you? Who or what stands in your way? And how do you get on eye level with the others?

Two dancers meet whose range of movement and backgrounds could not be more different. One dancer stands on her legs, the other sits in a wheelchair. Without fear of contact, the two will twist and turn around each other, romp, roll and carry each other. Virtuoso, unconventional and humorous, they sound out encounters at eye level.

Perform[d]ance are located in Stralsund, North East Germany. Led by Artistic Director Stefan Hahn, Perform[d]ance was founded in the summer of 2001 with the aim of developing dance theater productions with young people, dance students and professional dance artists and performing them in unusual historical or industrial locations.

Their work is vital in ensuring contemporary dance in the Western Pomerania region has a voice, a presence and a platform. Since the company was founded, 2-4 productions have taken place every year alongside festival invitations and guest performances in Berlin, Bremen / Bremerhaven, Switzerland, Belgium, Poland and Nicaragua.

Augenhohe was the first 'Classroom dance work' created in 2019 by Perform[d]ance to address low access to cultural provision for children and young people living in remote or rural areas in North East Germany. Each classroom dance work created is produced in two forms: for school and for the theatre.

Perform[d]ance are currently part of an international collaboration programme in partnership with TIN Arts (Durham, UK) that aims to bring leaders from both organisations together to exchange knowledge and share practice with a focus upon working with children and young people.

The International Programme is supported by Arts Council England and Dachverband Tanz Deutschland.
